The background of Groundtone
This page is for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of where Groundtone comes from, the vision behind it, and why sleep, rhythm, and sound can have such a powerful influence on calm, relaxation, and sleep. You donβt need to read this to use Groundtone β but it can add context and confidence.
My story
My story
For nearly thirty years, I have worked on the development of Groundtone. Not as a scientist in a laboratory, but as a musician and IT specialist, driven by a deep search for rest, balance, and recovery.
During this journey, I encountered something that for a long time remained outside the field of view of science: the Primordial Tone. A fundamental frequency that has a direct influence on the nervous system and on the human ability to reach deep relaxation and sleep.
Supported by four additional auxiliary frequencies, the Primordial Tone by itself was not pleasant to listen to. That is why I began experimenting with adding music. Music plays an essential role in how people feel, relax, and open up to recovery. By carefully weaving the Primordial Tone and the auxiliary frequencies into music, a balanced mix emerged in which the effect is preserved while the listening experience remains pleasant and natural.
The result of this search and many years of refinement is Groundtone: a personal, musical frequency-based approach that supports people with sleep problems without the use of heavy, addictive, or harmful medication.
Today, more and more scientists and medical professionals are focusing on the use of frequencies to support brain health. In this, Groundtone is a forerunner: an effective, safe, and affordable alternative that makes rest and recovery accessible again.

Sleep as a natural recovery process
Of all the things we do every day without much thought, sleep may be the most mysterious. Yet it is also one of the most powerful natural recovery mechanisms we have. In a world where more and more people deal with stress, overstimulation, and chronic sleep deprivation, it becomes clear that sleep is no longer a given. A warm shower, a cup of herbal tea, or a comfortable bed helps β but often isnβt enough on its own.
Consistency and sleep patterns
Sleep patterns are receiving more attention. Consistency, rhythm, and predictability are key conditions for the brain and nervous system to feel safe enough to let go. Building these patterns takes insight, attention, and planning. Sleep shouldnβt be an afterthought β itβs a core pillar of health and wellbeing, supporting both mental resilience and physical vitality.
Why do we sleep?
Research highlights how fundamental sleep is for recovery, memory, immune function, and emotional regulation. Long-term sleep deprivation has measurable effects β from irritability and concentration problems to increased health risks.
The vicious cycle of sleep pressure
With persistent insomnia, a vicious cycle often forms: the more someone feels they βmustβ sleep, the greater the pressure β and the harder it becomes to actually fall asleep. The key is often not more control, but a different approach: less forcing, more supportive conditions.
The role of sound and rhythm
Sound is one of the oldest regulating factors within the human system. Rhythm and repetition connect directly to the autonomic nervous system. This helps explain why certain sound structures, repeating patterns, and frequencies can have noticeable effects on processes such as breathing and heart rate.
What makes Groundtone different
Groundtone isnβt generic relaxation music, but a personal mix built from multiple layers. The combination of a base frequency (Groundtone), a personal frequency, and your music choice is designed as a consistent sleep ritual. Groundtone invites the nervous system to let go β without forcing anything.
No medical claims
Groundtone is not a medical device and does not replace a doctor or treatment. It is intended as support for relaxation and calm. Experiences differ from person to person.
Development and vision
Groundtone is the result of years of development, refinement, and practical experience. The vision is simple: calm is not a performance. Sleep is not willpower. The body recovers when conditions are right.
Signs of long-term sleep deprivation
Common signs of long-term sleep deprivation include:
- difficulty concentrating
- irritability and inner restlessness
- increased anxiety and tension
- persistent fatigue
- reduced social engagement
- declining performance at work
When insomnia persists, physical complaints can also develop, such as:
- chronic fatigue and burnout
- depressive symptoms
- stomach and intestinal problems
- disruption of hormonal processes
- higher risk of obesity and cardiovascular disease
- reduced immune system function
It is also established that sleep deprivation increases the risk of accidents at home, at work, and in traffic.
Sleep as a societal issue
The impact of sleep deprivation goes beyond the individual. In the Netherlands, lack of sleep leads to high societal costs due to absenteeism, reduced productivity, and long-term health complaints.
These figures underline that sleep is not a luxury, but a fundamental pillar of health and wellbeing β personally and societally.
In closing
This in-depth page provides context for those who want it. For some, trust is enough. For others, understanding helps. Two different routes β equally valuable.
Groundtone is not a medical device and does not replace a doctor or treatment. It is intended as support for relaxation and calm. Experiences differ from person to person.
